Our intrepid anglers enjoyed another most excellent day fishing for…er…..pike.  Recent monsoon weather defeated even the River Allen’s chalkstream clarity, and, with water over the banks too (good for the fish!), a late decision was made to relocate.

So over to Longham Lakes we went – normally an excellent pike venue, on a sparkling sunny day.  Ironically the lake was low – according to the friendly carp anglers, apparently South West Water use it as their bad-weather-reserve, and don’t top up from the nearby River Stour (recommended for fishing by the way) when that’s murky – and it was.

So, we had a fun social day, stretching legs, prospecting, drinking coffee, chatting to dog owners and trying not to snag their friendly four-legged-friends.

The fishing? Many casts, few fish.  Mike had a take which tempted (allegedly!), & fish of the day wasn’t a pike, clearly not a grayling.  Well done to Phil on the lonely perch – a good effort in tough conditions.

Then back for the main event (!) – chilli (outstanding) and beer (not bad either) at the Wimborne Green Man, for a very fine end of season de-brief.

Thanks to anglers, non-angling social pubsters, & of course all the committee for organising. Perhaps a winter repeat, this time after the grayling?
